RBI approves re-appointment of Amitabh Chaudhry as Axis Bank MD and CEO
Mumbai-based private sector lender Axis Bank has announced the reappointment of Amitabh Chaudhry as Managing Director and CEO of the bank for another three years, starting from January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2027.
The re-appointment, which was approved by the shareholders at the bank’s 30th Annual General Meeting held in July, received final approval from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on October 24, 2024.
The approval from the RBI communicated via a letter on Thursday, clears the way for Chaudhry’s leadership extension for the next term. His initial appointment and subsequent re-appointment were subject to necessary approvals from both the RBI and shareholders of the bank.
Chaudhry assumed leadership at Axis Bank in 2019 following a nine-year tenure at HDFC Life. Since then, he has played a key role in the bank's growth, driving the expansion of its retail banking services and digital capabilities, while strengthening its market position.
