Pralhad Joshi's Kolkata Tour: Visited 3 laboratories of Geological Survey of India

Kolkata: Union Coal Minister of India Shri Pralhad Joshi today visited Kolkata to review the performance and ongoing projects of the Geological Survey of India.

GSI provides basic earth science data to the Govt, industry, and the public. Urged the geo-scientific fraternity at GSI to expedite mineral exploration projects.

On his tour to Kolkata, he emphasized & urged all the officials to play their role in maintaining, cleaning, and file disposal. Further, asked them to free up the entire area from garbage & waste and convert them into green zones.

Further, he visited 3 laboratories of the Geological Survey of India:
* Electron Probe Micro Analyser Laboratory
* National Meteorite Repository
* Gem Testing Laboratory

There he got to learn about the 2 Electron Probe Micro Analysers (EPMA) during my visit to the EPMA Laboratory complex in Kolkata. EPMA is used to generate geoscientific data to understand the geology and carry out mineral system studies.

National Meteorite Repository has a rich collection of 644 meteorites from across the world. Visited the laboratory and got a rich understanding of the earth’s evolution and mineral system study, he mentioned.
