New Delhi: Government e Marketplace GeM has evolved as a one stop e-procurement portal for Goods & Services. It has a unique feature of catalogue-based procurement, which is the first of its kind in India. It is quite successful in bringing the wide horizon of sellers and buyers on a Pan India basis on a single platform. This has resulted in huge business for sellers and value for money for buyers.
GeM has enhanced transparency, efficiency, ease and speed in public procurement. NTPC’s procurement has reached Rs 1168.00 Crore in FY 21-22 registering seven hundred percent over the procurements made in FY 20-21.
During COVID-19, NTPC has procured medicines and medical equipment from GeM portal easily, thereby ensuring the treatment of the needy in a timely manner. The processes involved in GeM, from bid creation to award, stores receipt and payment, are very simple & user-friendly.
On the GeM platform procurements from MSMEs have improved. In fact, NTPC’s share of procurement from women MSEs through GeM portal has also increased. GeM has provided increased market access to Startups and ensured the prompt release of payment. This has strengthened the very intent of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
In Q1 of FY 22-23, procurement of INR 167 Crore has been made from MSE vendors against INR 290 Crore of total procurement from GeM.
GeM has helped promote entrepreneurship and create new jobs and enabled more inclusive growth by making the procurement platform accessible to vendors of all backgrounds and regions, especially women, start-ups and young businesses.
