NLCIL Group Creates New Records in Power Generation and Coal Production in Fy 2022-23

NLCIL, the state owned Navratna grade Public Sector under the administrative control of Union Coal Ministry has witnessed number of new records in its physical performances and reached new mile stones in its project implementation process during the financial year 2022- 23.

NEW DELHI- NLCIL, the state owned Navratna grade Public Sector under the administrative control of Union Coal Ministry has witnessed number of new records in its physical performances and reached new mile stones in its project implementation process during the financial year 2022- 23.

NLC India Ltd, a CPSE which is fuelling for the progress of the southern states of India for more than 6 decades is now expanding its activities in all parts of the Nation. Today the company has set its foot prints in PAN India Mode in the states of Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Assam and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

Currently the company operates 4 lignite Mines of 3.21 crore Tonnes of Lignite per annum at Neyveli and Barsingsar in Rajasthan. Similarly it operates a coal mine of 2 crore tonnes Capacity per annum at Talbira in Odisha.

In Power sector, it operates 5 lignite based Thermal Power Stations at Neyveli and Rajasthan with an installed capacity of 3640 MW. A coal based TPS, of 1000 MW capacity is also under operation at Thoothukudi, through its subsidiary company ‘NLC Tamil Nadu Power Ltd’, (NTPL) a JV between NLCIL and TANGEDCO.

On renewable energy front, the company operates Solar Power Plants of 1370 MW capacity in Tamil Nadu, including 20 MW SPP in Andaman & Nicobar Islands. It also operates 51 MW Wind Power Plants in Tamil Nadu.

Today the mining capacity of the company is 5.21 crore tonnes of Lignite and Coal per annum and Power generation capacity is 6061 MW. NLCIL is on expansion Mode, to augment its Mining Capacity to 8.41 core tonnes per annum and power generating capacity to 17171 MW. With this background NLCIL yesterday released its Physical Performances and highlights of its project implementation process during the year 2022-23. According to the   press release, NLCIL witnessed yet another successful Financial Year, by creating number of new records in the year 2022-23.

Power Sector: 
NLCIL and its subsidiary Company has generated 3008 Crore Units of Power, which is the highest since inception. 219 crore units of green power generated from its Solar and Wind Power Plants in a year is also a new record for the company.
Mines Sector: 
Producing 1.003 crore tonnes of Coal during the year under review is the highest quantity since inception. Regarding Lignite, despite the constraints on availability of land, the company has excavated 2.354 crore tonnes of lignite, in 2022-23.
Financial Sector:
The revenue collection during the year under review crossed Rs 14,600 crore. While the target for Capital expenditure was Rs 2920 Crore, the company has achieved Rs 3010 Crore.

Status of New projects:
100% tie up of power was arranged for the 3x660 MW coal based Ghatampur Thermal Power Project at Uttar Pradesh, which is in the  advanced stage of completion and for the 3x800 MW Thermal Power Project at Talabira, Odisha. For the 2nd Expansion of Neyveli Thermal Power Station-II, (2x660MW), single package Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) tender was floated.

Augmenting Green Power Generation:
After a gap of more than 5 years, NLCIL awarded 300 MW Solar Power Project, under CPSU scheme at Barsingsar at Rajasthan. An MoU was signed with Assam Power Distribution Company for developing 1000 MW, Solar Power Projects in the state of Assam.

New Initiatives
Contract was awarded for setting up of ‘OB to Sand Beneficiation Plant in Mine-I A’ with a capacity of 2, 62, 000 Cubic Meters per annum. Tender has been floated for the Gasification Block and Methanol Block, under the new initiative shemes ‘Lignite to Methanol’. Sale of Minor Minerals (Silica, Sand, Ball clay etc.) was commenced after a gap of more than 5 years from all Neyveli Mines. First ever coal swapping arrangement was entered with National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) through which Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd.(MCL) coal made available to NTPL, Thoothukudi  in lieu of Talabira Coal as a cost advantage measure.

During the year 2022-23 NLCIL has honoured with many Prestigious Awards The Govt e marketing ‘Gem’ Portal ranked NLCIL in 1st place for timely payments and 2nd place for overall ranking among top Central Public Sector Enterprises. The company maintained harmonious and Cordial Industrial relations which facilities performance excellence and fetched many IR awards. NLCIL Mines, witnessed zero fatal accidents and Paved avenues for getting many safety Awards  Apart from that, NLCIL has recognized  with prestigious awards in the fields of Clean Energy, Humanitarian  efforts, Skill Development, Sustainable Development, Best performance in Thermal Sector etc., 

Planning for the future
For the next Financial year (2023 -24) the company is planning to give thrust and priority for increasing  the Plant Load Factor (PLF) of Thermal Power Stations and enhancing the Capacity Utilization Factor (CUF) of Renewable energy project and increasing the efficiency of Mining Machineries  and other systems.

NLCIL is also planning to reduce the cost of production by adopting various cost control measures and for taking steps towards timely completion of 2400 MW Talabira TPS and 1320 MW Neyveli. TPS- II 2nd Expansion.

No doubt, the company’s strategy reveals that, the year 2023 – 24 will also become a unforgettable year for NLCIL, which will leave number of indelible marks in the annals of the company.
