Darranga designated as authorised Immigration Check Post
This designation permits entry into and exit from India for all passengers holding valid travel documents, under sub-rule (b) of rule 3 of the Passport (Entry into India) Rules, 1950.
The Central government has officially designated the Darranga land check post in Assam’s Tamulpur district as an authorized Immigration Check Post, marking a significant advancement for cross-border travel and regional connectivity.
This designation permits entry into and exit from India for all passengers holding valid travel documents, under sub-rule (b) of rule 3 of the Passport (Entry into India) Rules, 1950.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued a notification on Friday, specifying that the designation is effective immediately. Additionally, the Chief Immigration Officer of the Bureau of Immigration will serve as the ‘Civil Authority’ at the Darranga Land Immigration Check Post, starting November 1, 2024, as per sub-clause (2) of Clause 2 of the Foreigners Order, 1948. This role is expected to facilitate more streamlined immigration processes and bolster border management in the region.

The establishment of a formal immigration checkpoint is part of India’s broader strategy to strengthen border security, manage immigration, and improve infrastructure at key cross-border transit points.
