New Delhi: Coal India subsidiary MCL is commissioning a non-coking coal washery at Lakhanpur Area in the Ib Valley Coalfields, Odisha. This is Coal India's largest washery, with a capacity of 10 million tonnes per year. The washery had a test run recently.

Washeries help improve the coal quality by bringing down ash content through beneficiation. Coal India is also augmenting its coking coal washing capacity by introducing new coking coal washeries, renovating the existing ones, and dismantling some of the older ones.
