New Delhi: CMPDI to increase the pace of exploration has taken up a 2D/3D Seismic Survey and data acquisition with depths up to about 1000 meters in the exploration of coal. Emphasis was laid on 2D/3D Seismic surveys through departmental resources. About 70 line km of the seismic survey has been done departmentally during 2022 and about 180 line km of the seismic survey is envisaged to be carried out during FY 2022-23. About 6.61 lakh meters of drilling have been carried out during the year 2022.

About 7.0 lakh meters of drilling are envisaged to be carried out during FY 2022-23. About 13.5 billion tonnes of coal resources were added to the proved category through Detailed Exploration covering an area of about 435 sq km through 30 Geological Reports. Efforts are being made for drilling through NMET (National Mineral Exploration Trust) funding.

Exploration proposals have been submitted to NMET for 12 blocks in 2022, out of which 10 proposals have been approved including one proposal for the exploration of other minerals (Lead/Zinc). Work is going on in 8 Blocks. Efforts are also being made to explore other minerals through NMET funding.

CMPDI during 2022, a total of 35 Project Reports (PRs) have been prepared with incremental capacity addition of about 83 Million tonnes per year. Out of these 35 PRs, 23 PRs are of Opencast Projects, 11 PRs of Underground Projects and 1 PR of Mix Project. 3 PRs have been planned for non-CIL mines including 1 PR for a metal mine.

CMPDI conceptualized scientific sand replenishment study and report for Banda district in the State of UP has been completed. This covers the study for three rivers viz. Ken, Yamuna and Baghain. This study will help in the estimation of the annual replenishment of sand in these rivers and help the administration of regulation of the sand mining activities and to protect the river ecology and morphology. In addition, the replenishment study for 25 districts of UP and 4 rivers in the State of Bihar i.e. Sone, Phalgu, Kiul and Chanan are also under progress.
Mine dossiers for about 220 coal blocks selected for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th tranches of the auction by MoC for the sale of coal were prepared and submitted to the Ministry of Coal. Out of these, about 60 coal blocks block has been successfully auctioned in the first five tranches. Mine dossiers for 133 Coal blocks for the 6th tranche and 8 coal blocks for the 5th tranche (2nd attempt) were submitted to MoC, the auction of which is under process.

CMPDI was instrumental in the formulation of Model MDO Documents for opencast mines, underground mines and regionally explored opencast coal blocks. Seven MDO projects of CIL have been awarded and Subsidiary Board approval for two mines has been granted so far based on the above document. CMPDI was also instrumental in the formulation of Model MDO Documents for discontinued/abandoned mines of CIL on a Revenue Sharing Basis. Based on this document, tenders of 20 mines in the 1st Tranche & 9 mines in the 2nd Tranche were done successfully. Out of these tenders, LOA has been issued for one mine and Subsidiary Board approval for three mines has been granted, LOA for these three mines will be issued shortly.

Under new technology adoption, CMPDI has introduced Drones for surveying and mapping applications in CIL. CMPDI has two survey-grade drones which are equipped with LiDAR, optical and thermal sensors. It is presently being used for various applications in SECL, BCCL, CCL & MCL. Twelve (12) Drone Service Providers have been empanelled by CMPDI based on the qualitative assessment as the number of Drone based jobs is high and spread over various subsidiaries of CIL. CMPDI is using the services of these agencies on regular basis. Some major projects executed using drones include Sand Replenishment Studies in the State of UP, Terrain Mapping of Unstable Sites in Jharia Coalfield, Drone based real-time footage videography in four projects of CCL as per the mandate of MoEF, Soil Moisture Conservation Studies for NALCO, VEDANTA & SCCL in Odisha, Thermal Survey, etc. CMPDI has successfully conducted Gyroscopic Survey for Tunnel Alignment using GYROMAT 3000 in Sivoke-Rango Rail Link Project, West Bengal.

In Environmental Services, CMPDI Prepared a Carbon footprint analysis and roadmap for carbon neutrality of Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL). The estimation of total GHG emissions was carried out which includes fugitive emissions from mines.  An action plan to make the company carbon neutral was checked out that will contribute to the overall efforts of India to achieve its NDC targets.

CMPDI floated three tenders for the development of the Surface Coal Gasification Project on BOO mode at ECL, SECL & WCL. Further, A Report on the due diligence of BHEL’s gasification facilities at Hyderabad & Trichy was submitted to CIL. CMPDI also submitted the Pre-Feasibility Study Report of East Bokaro CBM Block, East Bokaro Coalfield (Under CCL command Area) for the development of Coal Bed Methane to CCL in February 2022. PFR and EMP for Jharia CBM Block-I for Environment clearance for the exploration phase have also been prepared.
To create a Center of Excellence in Data Analytics, CMPDI has gone ahead in terms of acquisition and use of Big Data Management and Intelligent Analytics software and started work on a few identified projects.

62 outside CIL consultancy jobs were obtained by CMPDI  worth Rs.30.92 crores during the year 2022 from esteemed organizations outside CIL including Private, Govt. and Public Sector agencies.
