BEML Ltd Welcomes Two New Directors in Rail & Metro, and Mining & Construction Verticals
Bangalore: BEML Ltd is pleased to announce the induction of two highly experienced professionals into its Board. Shri Rajeev Kumar Gupta has joined as Director - Rail & Metro, while Shri Sanjay Som has taken on the role of Director - Mining & Construction. Shri Rajeev Kumar Gupta holds a degree in Electronics Engineering from BIT Sindri and brings over 35 years of public sector experience. His distinguished career includes leadership roles at SAIL and BHEL, showcasing his vast expertise in Manufacturing, Marketing, Project Execution, IT, Strategic Management, Corporate Communication, and International Business.
At BHEL, as Executive Director (Corporate Strategy & Communications), Shri Gupta led strategic initiatives, strengthened stakeholder relations, and modernized communication strategies to boost BHEL’s visibility. During his tenure as General Manager of BHEL's Transportation Business, he played a key role in securing the Vande Bharat order and advancing high-speed train development. With over two decades of international business experience, Shri Gupta significantly expanded BHEL’s global presence in Africa, Europe, and South Asia, contributing to its export growth strategies.
Shri Sanjay Som, an accomplished Mechanical Engineer from NIT Raipur, brings over 35 years of experience in the heavy engineering and manufacturing sectors. His career spans both public and private sectors, where he has driven innovation and transformative growth. Shri Som’s leadership played a pivotal role in developing the Vande Bharat Sleeper Coach for Indian Railways, reinforcing his reputation for excellence and forward-thinking.
Prior to his new role, Shri Som headed BEML’s Bangalore Complex, overseeing operations at the Rail & Metro Manufacturing Division. Over his 17-year tenure at BEML, he has made notable contributions across its core verticals—Mining & Construction, Defence & Aerospace, and Rail & Metro. His prior experience includes working with major public companies such as Simplex Engineering and Grasim Industries, where he specialized in manufacturing for railways, steel plants, and heavy machinery.
