Alstom delivers the first train set for Delhi Metro Phase-IV

Alstom has handed over the first Metropolis train set for Delhi Metro Phase IV from its world-class facility in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh.

The fully made-in-India trains, designed for a top speed of 95 km/h, feature driverless GOA 4 technology and mark a milestone in sustainable urban transportation for Delhi.

In November 2022, an order was awarded for the delivery of 52 train sets, each consisting of six cars. The project will cover three lines of DMRC, including extensions of Lines 7 and 8, and the new Gold Line 10, spanning a distance of 64.67 km. Production commenced in February 2024 at a special event.

The €312 million project also includes the maintenance of 13 train sets for 15 years on the new line, marking the first time Delhi Metro has outsourced maintenance to an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM). This 360-degree project sets a benchmark for the Indian metro sector.

The metro trains are designed to operate at speeds up to 85 km/h, with a maximum safe speed of 95 km/h. The advanced driverless GOA 4 technology enhances safety and efficiency. These trains are expected to boost the Delhi Metro’s capacity and operational efficiency.

Dr. Vikas Kumar, Managing Director, DMRC shared his enthusiasm on the occasion of the dispatch of the first train set for Phase 4 corridors, “Today is a historic occasion for the Delhi Metro family as we take another major step towards operationalising the Phase 4 corridors. The first set of trains for this new phase of expansion is being dispatched today from Sri City, Chennai. We are looking forward to a new era of enhanced convenience and eco-friendly travel for our passengers.”
