He completed his B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering with honours from the Government Engineering College, Trichur, Kerala, in 1988. He has undergone various training and development program viz., 32nd Batch BARC training, 8 months training on VVER Technology in RF, Management Development Program in NITIE, Human Resource Management in ASCI, Team Leader by WANO and Senior Leadership Development in IIMA.

After completing BARC 32nd batch training, joined at MAPS in 1989. From 1989 to 2003, he worked at MAPS at different capacities as field engineer in Operation, Maintenance and Licensed Engineer in Fuel Handling System. He has contributed immensely for the performance improvement of FHS, Development of coolant channel isolation plug, defueling of the core in less than 60 days and complete overhauling & upgradation FHS during first EMCCR of MAPS-2 in 2001-2003.

He was transferred to the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNPP) in the year 2003. Subsequently, he worked as Senior Commissioning Engineer (Fuel Handling). He was responsible for the commissioning FHS & auxiliaries including first receipt of fuel from Russia. During this period, he had the additional responsibility of execution of M6 mega package consisting of erection & commissioning various load lifting equipment such as 350T Polar cranes in Reactor Buildings, 350T Trestle cranes, 180T cranes in Turbine Buildings, Pump house crane, Fuel building crane, lifts etc.

He took over the charge of Head (QA) in 2010. He was responsible for QA/QC activities of KKNPP during the different phases of KKNPP 1&2 and KKNPP 3&4. He contributed immensely in resolving various problems faced such as double check valve; rehabilitation of failed HP rotor in Unit-1; Unloosening of RCP impeller locking bolt & rehabilitation of affected equipment such as Reactor Pressure Vessel (RPV) & Steam Generator-2 in Unit-2 and rectification of Main Coolant Pipe (MCP) nozzle leak by unconventional ice plugging without core unloading.

He took over the charge of Chief Superintendent of KKNPP 1&2 in December 2017 and as Station Director in February 2019. As a SD, in addition to the steady performance improvement of the station and reduction in refueling outage periods, he carried out various challenging tasks such as on-site machining of 1000 MWe LP rotors, HP rotor & Generator rotor after a major failure of TG system in shortest time, which is first of its kind in power industry; replacement of Unit-2 generator stator in second RSD in 90 days which facilitated full power operation at 1000 MWe and three Refueling Shut Down works in covid period between 2020 and 2021.

As Director (HR), he is responsible for the entire Human Resource functions of the Company. His main focus is streamlining the HR activities, maintain good industrial harmony, enhance training & development, thereby increasing the value of the human asset. Shri P.A. Suresh Babu is a Member on the Board of Directors of NPCIL and Board of Radiation and Isotope Technology (BRIT).
