Hyderabad: Indian Oil Corporation Limited Chairman Shri S M Vaidya today visits to visit Chanchalguda Central Prison & the Special Prison for Women. "I was impressed by the well-equipped hospital, gym, sports facilities & FM station. My compliments to the Prison authorities led by Mr. Rajiv Trivedi, DG Prisons & Correctional Services said, Vaidya.
He further added, Chanchalguda Prison is the only Retail Outlet operated by all women customer attendants. It is a unique initiative by IndianOil and Telangana State Prisons and Correctional Services Department wherein the objective is to provide employment to reformed prisoners at Retail Outlets and help them in rehabilitation and to maintain the highest standard of Quality and Quantity of fuel and offer excellent service to the customers. This has enabled the women prisoners to break free from their past and lead a transformed social life."
Chanchalguda Central Jail is one of the oldest jails in the country located in Hyderabad, India. This is located in the old city of Hyderabad at Chanchalguda. Its chief architect was Nawab Khan Bahadur Mirza Akbar Baig. It was constructed during the regime of Nizam ruler by the name Nizam–Ul–Mulk.
The jail has a capacity of 1000 inmates, achieved 100% literacy during 1989–90. This was made possible with the introduction of the adult literacy program.
