IAS Officer, Sujata Chaturvedi appointed as Member, UPSC
She will serve for six years after she joins the UPSC as a member or until she turns sixty-five, whichever comes first.

In accordance with Article 316 (1) of the Indian Constitution, the President of India appointed Sujata Chaturvedi (IAS: 1989: BH), the current Union Secretary for Sports, as a Member of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) two months prior her superannuation.
On June 30, 2025, she is expected to superannuate. She served as Additional Secretary (Establishment) in the Department of Personnel & Training (DoP&T) before being appointed Union Secretary.

She was the first female IAS officer to hold the position in Bihar while serving as the Cadre's Principal Secretary (Finance), Government of Bihar. She was also UIDAI's Deputy Director General.
She will serve for six years after she joins the UPSC as a member or until she turns sixty-five, whichever comes first.

Article 316(2) of the Indian Constitution governs the term of appointment of UPSC members. With a maximum of ten members, the UPSC is led by a chairperson. Every year, the UPSC holds three phases of the civil services examination: preliminary, main, and interview.
