NMDC Transforms Education in Donimalai: Rs 52.14 Lakhs Invested in New Classrooms and Facilities

Mumbai: In a remarkable display of commitment to educational empowerment, NMDC Limited has brought transformative changes to the lives of students at the Government Lower Primary School in Akashnagar Camp, Narsingapura Village, through its robust Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. With an investment of Rs 52.14 lakhs, NMDC constructed a three modern classrooms building, a concrete road, and spacious CC flooring, revolutionizing the educational landscape for this underserved community.

The Government Lower Primary School, serving predominantly students from SC/ST and backward communities, previously operated in dire conditions. Built in 1999, the old school building was dilapidated, congested, and woefully inadequate, housing students from 1st to 5th standard in just two overcrowded classrooms. This limited infrastructure severely hindered learning and offered no space for play or recreational activities.

Recognizing the urgent need, NMDC stepped in with a visionary project that significantly enhanced both the infrastructure and learning environment. The newly constructed three-classroom building is spacious, safe, and inclusive, designed to inspire creativity, stimulate student engagement and foster a conducive atmosphere for quality education. The addition of a concrete approach road ensures that children and parents can now safely and comfortably access the school regardless of weather conditions. Additionally, the extensive 35 meter by 15 meter CC flooring in front of the building now serves as an ideal place for prayer assemblies, recreation and play, improving daily school activities.

Shri Suresh, Head Master, GLPS, Shanthinagar Camp, who has witnessed firsthand the dramatic transformation, expressed immense joy and gratitude, saying, "One year back, when I was transferred to this school, the condition was so distressing it caused me sleepless nights. Now, seeing the children enjoy their own playground, proper classrooms, and safe road access fills me with joy. NMDC has created a second home for our children, making me proud and honored to serve as the principal. I could never have imagined such a transformation in our remote village. We are deeply grateful to NMDC for their CSR initiative."

The impact of NMDC's efforts is already evident, with significant improvement in student attendance and overall academic engagement. Parents now feel encouraged and motivated to send their children to the improved local school, offering them an opportunity that previously seemed reserved only for children attending distant private institutions.

Expressing the sentiments of local residents, Panchayat member Shri Shiva Kumar said, "Having grown up in this village, I have never witnessed such profound generosity directed toward the development of our children’s future. NMDC has shown genuine care and concern, and we, as villagers, extend our heartfelt gratitude."

Smt. Rahulamma, a proud mother of a student studying in 2nd standard, also praised the initiative, saying, "Earlier, only children from affluent families had access to good schools in nearby towns. But now, thanks to NMDC’s CSR initiative, our children have equal opportunities and feel joyful attending school. It’s a moment of pride for all of us. We thank NMDC wholeheartedly for this noble effort."

NMDC is determined to maintain this positive momentum. Confirming the company's commitment to further enhancing the school’s infrastructure, NMDC officials shared ambitious future plans, including constructing a dedicated office for the Headmaster, kitchen facilities, compound walls, toilets, and additional essential amenities. NMDC aims to convert the Government Lower Primary School into a model educational institution, setting an example of CSR excellence.

Through this initiative, NMDC not only reaffirms its role as a responsible corporate citizen but also lays the foundation for sustainable community development, significantly elevating educational standards and creating lasting positive impacts on countless young lives.
