The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is a state-owned road transport corporation in Kerala, India. Established in 1938 as the Travancore State Transport Department, it was later rebranded as KSRTC in 1965. KSRTC is one of the oldest and most well-managed public transport systems in India, playing a crucial role in enhancing the state’s road connectivity.
Headquartered in Thiruvananthapuram, KSRTC is divided into three zones: South, Central, and North. The corporation operates over 6,000 buses on more than 6,300 routes, covering a daily distance of approximately 1.4 million kilometers. KSRTC’s fleet includes a variety of buses, from ordinary services to premium options like Volvo and Scania, catering to different passenger needs and preferences.
KSRTC has continually evolved to meet the changing demands of public transportation. In 2015, the Kerala Urban Road Transport Corporation (KURTC) was established to manage urban transportation, and in 2021, KSRTC SWIFT was launched to operate long-distance buses. These initiatives aim to improve service efficiency and address the financial challenges faced by the corporation.
The corporation’s history is marked by its dedication to public service and innovation. From its early days of importing chassis from England to its current status as a key player in Kerala’s transportation infrastructure, KSRTC has consistently strived to enhance the travel experience for its passengers.
