RBI to soon issue Rs 100 and Rs 200 banknotes with new Governor’s signature
According to a recent announcement by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the recently appointed Governor Shri Sanjay Malhotra will sign the Rs 100 and Rs 200 denomination banknotes in the Mahatma Gandhi (New) Series.
The design of these new banknotes will remain unchanged and will be identical to the existing Rs 100 and Rs 200 notes in the Mahatma Gandhi (New) Series. The introduction of these banknotes is a routine process following the appointment of a new RBI governor.
The central bank has also confirmed that all previously issued Rs 100 and Rs 200 denomination banknotes will continue to be legal tender. There is no impact on the validity of older banknotes in circulation.
In order to maintain monetary system uniformity, the RBI periodically issues new currency notes bearing the most recent signatures of the current governor. The new banknotes will be released into circulation shortly.
