Who Can Stop Mohun Bagan from Claiming a Second Indian Super League Title in a Row?

Mohun Bagan Super Giants are perched at the summit of the 2024–25 Indian Super League (ISL) season table as they seek to defend their title and lift the trophy for the second year running. Under the tutelage of head coach José Francisco Molina, the team has performed magnificently and are considered the heavy favourites to clinch the title. However, there are other teams who will not make it easy for the defending champions, and we’ll be looking at the few teams likely to stretch Mohun Bagan.
FC Goa
FC Goa, in particular, has been a serious contender this season, but trail Mohun Bagan by 10 points. Under head coach Manolo Márquez, the team has delivered some consistent performances and has been considered as the other top contenders for the league title according to Indian Super League experts' predictions. They possess a good offense, and defense, just enough to unsettle any opponent. FC Goa will have to dig deeper and hope Mohun Bagan fumble in the coming fixtures.
Jamshedpur FC
Placed fourth and 12 points from the league leaders, Jamshedpur FC boast an attractive blend of a sound defense and an impressive attack. They have remained in the hunt by continuing to win close games. They’ll need to do better in attack and take the chances that come about when teams play them in the upper echelons of the table to dethrone Mohun Bagan.

Mumbai City FC
Mumbai City FC is still a side with enough edge to cause a few problems; indeed, they are a side enduring a disappointing campaign themselves this season. Having the squad depth as well as the experience in big matches, they can upset the title-challengers Mohun Bagan. To do that, however, they should launch a series of strong performances as the season heads towards the finish.
Kerala Blasters FC
Kerala Blasters FC, known for their passionate fandom and vibrant playing style, can upset any team on their day, but they lack the consistency to do that. They may have had to make do without some of their key players due to injury, but if they can get what they have firing, this team can cause a serious upset.
The current standings indicate that the biggest gap is at the top, with favourites Mohun Bagan establishing a 10-point lead. They are a team on a winning roll and a team looking more likely to extend the lead if the closest pursuants keep dropping points. The gap between second-placed Goa and fourth-placed Jamshedpur is five points, meaning it will be an interesting finish to the league.
Jamshedpur have played a game less than Bengaluru in third, but they are not scoring as many goals as Bengaluru, who enjoy a superior goal difference. From the look of things, Mohun could be strolling towards another title, but anything can happen in football. Injuries can stop anyone, but the defending champions can bank on their healthy lead.
Mohun Bagan Super Giant may be at the top of the 2024–25 ISL season but they don't have the title wrapped up yet. Is it only a matter of time, or another team could spring a surprise?
