Bhubaneswar: Ministry of Steel and Department of Public Enterprises Government of India along with Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and MECON Limited (MECON) organised a conclave on capital goods for steel sector manufacturer in India on 23rd October 2018 Mayfair convention Bhubaneswar, Odisha against the backdrop of enhancing indigenous capacity for manufacturing Steel Plant equipment and spares.
 
The country aspires to boost its steel producing capacity from the present level of 138 million tonnes per annum to 300 MTPA by 2030-31. To keep the nation on Fastrack of economic development, development of infrastructure at the faster pace is essential where availability from indigenous source is viewed as per primary step.
 
The core equipment of Steel plants are import dependent. As per an estimation, the capacity expansion will need the investment of US $128 billion, out of which about USD 25 billion will be needed for import equipment. Ministry of Steel and development of public Enterprises Government of India took initiative indigenizing and organised the conclave.
 
Shri Chaudhary Birender Singh, Minister of Steel, Government of India, Shri Anant Gangaram Geete, Minister of Heavy Industry and public sector enterprises, Government of India, and Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Government of India were present in the conclave.
 
Heavy Engineering Corporation Limited (HEC) was primarily set up to enhance steel producing capacity and it has significantly contributed in the set-up, expansion and modernization of Steel Plants. Hindi conclave, HEC has been viewed as one of the major have for manufacturing capital goods for steel capacity expansion. Shri Avijit Ghosh, CMD, HEC, and Shri Rana S Chakravarty, Director (Marketing) attended the conclave.
 
Two MoUs Were signed between HEC and SAIL for, heavy casting, forgings and heavy fabrications and coke oven battery machines in line with 'Make in India'. An MoU signed between HEC and MECON for Joint development of SG Iron Stave Coolers, Pallet Cars, BOF Converters etc, and
An MoU signed between HEC and PaulWurth, Luxembourg for Coke Oven MAchines. Shri Rana S Chakravarty, Director (Marketing) HEC, signed the MoUs behalf of HEC.
